Jon Stewart warned Americans against mistreating US Representative George Santos the same way they did former US President Donald Trump.
The newly elected congressman from New Yorks Long Island has been at the center of recent controversy for telling several lies, with many home state Republicans and Democrats calling for his resignation.
Everything about him just screams mediocre, Stewart said of Santos on the latest episode of his podcast, The Problem with Jon Stewart.
Trying to understand why no one really cares about Santos’ developing scandals, the former Daily Show host reasons: He’s not obese, he’s not thin, he’s in the middle of it all.
Stewart compared the disgraced Santos to a prisoner of fresh meat who could not decide between joining the Aryan gang or the Spanish gang.
He and his co-hosts and writers Henrik Blix and Maria Randazzo continued to make jokes about Santos, before Stewart restrained himself.
The thing we have to be careful about, and I’ve always been careful about this myself and I’ve had this problem with Trump, said the host, is that we can’t mistake folly for the absence of danger. Because shameless people need to do shameful things.

He then drew parallels between Trump and Brazil’s controversial former president Jair Bolsonaro saying: You can say, this is absurd! But folly is where the real danger always lies.
Ignorance always makes you think something is more pleasant than it is, Stewart added. I misjudged Trump because he was so funny.

Following a New York Times investigation in December, which uncovered Santos’ list of lies, the New York representative was met with criticism not only from across party lines but from other Republicans New York, calling on him to resign.
Santos, however, responded to these calls with defiance, stating that he would NOT resign in a recent interview.
Some of his biggest lies include his claims of knowing the victims of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting, that his mother died twice, and that he has Jewish heritage and that his grandparents fled the Holocaust, among many others.
