Say a Prayer for the Mar-a-Lago Busboys: Donald Trump Was Just Fined $1 Million for His Very Frivolous Clinton Lawsuit

One thing you may have noticed over the last half decade is that Donald Trump has issues with Hillary Clinton and he also likes to file frivolous lawsuits. (He’s also received numerous non-frivolous lawsuits, but that’s another story for another time.) Anyway, these two things collided in March when the former president sued his opponent in 2016 and claimed in actual documents of court that Clinton tried to destroy his life. Yes, the kind of accusation that teenagers more commonly make when their parents won’t let them get a cell phone or go to the mall. In the 108-page suit, Trump claims that Clinton and others (the Democratic National Committee, former FBI director James Comey, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan, etc.) committed a no ingenious plan to undermine his 2016 campaign and then his administration, through weav[ing] a false narrative that Trump is colluding with a hostile foreign sovereign, ie Russia. While the allegations are both broad and baseless, the essential premise is that Clinton and her cronies attempted to bring down Trump through illegal spying and other schemes. Trump and his lawyers insisted that the alleged conspiracy fell under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations(RICO) Act.e. the law was originally passed to prosecute the Mafia and sought more than $72 million in damages.

Unfortunately for the ex-husband, a federal judge doesn’t believe the case is worth the paper it’s printed on, and on Thursday let him know. In a 46-page ruling, US district judge Donald Middlebrooks wrote: This case should never have been brought. Its inadequacy as a legal claim is apparent from the outset. No reasonable attorney would file this. Intended for political purposes, none of the counts of the amended complaint state a cognizable legal claim. Making it abundantly clear that he has a number of former presidents, Middlebrooks added: Mr. Trump is a prolific and sophisticated litigator who repeatedly uses the courts to exact revenge on political opponents. He is the mastermind behind the strategic abuse of the judicial process, and he cannot be seen as a litigant blindly following a lawyer’s advice. He is well aware of the impact of his actions.

In addition to having his ass handed to him by a member of the judiciary, Trump and the lawyer who filed the case on his behalf, Alina Habba, were fined $937,989.39.

If the name Habba sounds familiar to you, it’s because he’s been working on some of Trump’s most high-profile cases that no respectable lawyer wants to handle in a million-foot poll. Following the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago in August, Habba went on TV and suggested the government had planted evidence, a claim neither he nor his boss were able to back up. He was also there when Trump was impeached in October over the rape of E. Jean Carroll, and had to explain to the 45th president that the picture of his accuser was not, in fact, his second ex-wife, Marla Maples.

Not a single spokesperson for Trump or Habba responded to The New York Times’ request for comment, even if we know our former president and think we do! state, Russia, and witch hunts to be released on Truth Social in short order.

On Friday, Trump withdrew his lawsuit against New York attorney general Letitia James, who the judge presiding over the Clinton suit cited as an example of his blatant abuse of the courts. Which means it can! he read the room for the first time in his life.

Last month, Middlebrooksyes, who is presiding over both cases, said the lawsuit against James appeared frivolous and frivolous.
