In Loving Memory of Donald Clymer: 1931-2022

Donald M. Clymer, age 91, was born in Olympia, Washington on August 8, 1931, and passed away at his home in Centralia, Washington on December 27, 2022. He grew up in Alaska where he married and started a family of his own . He was a beloved husband, father, great-grandfather, and brother

In 1952, Don enlisted in the Army, attaining the rank of Corporal, before transferring to the Anny Reserve completing eight total years of service.

After leaving the Army Don settled in Olympia, Washington and began what would become a long and successful career in the floor covering business at Sears. He was then recruited to help the Olympia Eagles (FDC) recover from a dwindling membership, as the club’s manager for several years. His love of bowling then led him to manage one of the local bowling alleys in Lacey, Washington. Don moved to Chehalis, Washington where he returned to the floor covering business and worked for several companies over the next 30 years. He is admired for his incredible work ethic and positive attitude. Don finally retired at age 88 in 2020 from I-5 Floors N More.

Don is young and has a passion for life. He enjoyed the great outdoors, especially camping and fishing. He was the proud owner of two boats that took him on many adventures in the Puget Sound with family members. He is a good bowler and has been very competitive in several leagues in the Olympia area over the years. He is a great dancer and can be found on the dance floor doing a mean jitterbug. Don loved sports and was a loyal and dedicated Seahawks fan.

But most of all, Don loved his family very much. She returned to Alaska on many occasions and cherished the time spent with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His “second” family, the American Filipino community in Centralia/Chehalis affectionately called him “Daddy” Don.

Don is survived by his beloved wife Annabel; daughter Melody (Curtis) Graham of Eagle River, Alaska; son Troy Clymer of Duvall, Washington; grandchildren Elizabeth (Mako) Harrop also of Eagle River, Lindsey (Ryan) Crow of Palmer, Alaska, Zachary Graham of Eagle River, Alaska, and Isaac (Marie) Graham of Eagle River, Alaska; great-grandchildren Dylan, Liam, Ethan, Curtis, Mason, Ryan and Parker; sister Cindy Alfred of Lacey, Washington; nephew Ryan Alfred of Edmonds, Washington; and brother Jim Clymer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023 at Fort Borst Park, Kitchen #2, Centralia, Washington 98531. Family and friends are invited to come and share fond memories and stories.

A private memorial service for family members will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
