Donald Trump’s (4th?) Biggest Scandal Breaks Over 2 Years Late

It’s probably impossible to rank Donald Trump’s scandals. We’re here all day! But it is definitely one of the biggest from a rule of law perspective. It’s just, you know, a little late in the game. but you know what? We know about it now!

OK, so let’s rewind. Remember the Mueller Probe? Prosecutor Robert Mueller has been hired as a special counsel to investigate any possible collusion between agents of the Russian government and Donald Trump. This is an important mission because we do not want people in office when they are dependent on foreign interests. What Russia wants and what America needs are different prospects — especially with a twisted murderer like Vladimir Putin in charge there.

But what did Mueller actually find? Well, that’s a big area of ​​controversy…

The Mueller Report

If you remember, Trump said it was TOTAL EXONERATION. That was after his pick for Attorney General Bill Barr released his Mueller Report summary letter to the public. That summary made it completely as if Mueller had found no crime.

But the truth is that Mueller found many crimes. He filed criminal charges against 34 individuals and 3 corporations, most of them Russian agents. The report clearly states that Russia fully acted to put their thumb on the scale for Trump – but collusion on the part of Trump cannot be proven. However, the report also said that the reason the conspiracy could not be proven was because of all the obstacles to justice. At that point, six associates of the Trump campaign — George Papadopoulos, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, Michael Flynn, Michael Cohen, and Roger Stone — were charged with crimes ranging from lying to Congress to witness tampering. Not exactly the nothingburger Barr led Americans to believe.

Did Trump commit obstruction of justice? Mueller basically said they couldn’t indict him because they weren’t allowed to indict him. The group sent it to Congress for impeachment. But Congress won’t impeach him because Mueller didn’t indict him. It’s a stupid mess. And Trump used the chaos to declare victory, calling the whole thing a hoax.

The Real Witch

It is not enough for Trump to simply tell everyone that he is the victim of a deep state conspiracy. He likes it in writing. He wants charges filed. So he got Bill Barr to discredit the first investigation. Barr appointed another investigator to investigate the first investigation. We know, it’s incredibly stupid, we can’t avoid that this is our government now.

Barr tapped prosecutor John Durham to find any improprieties in the Trump-Russia investigation. His job is to make sure that the law is followed. But in reality, according to a new New York Times exposé, Barr and Durham are working together to try to dig up whatever dirt they can. Remember, the whole point of a special counsel is that they should be independent — to make sure there’s no political motivation, it’s about justice. So Barr and Durham drinking Scotch together in back rooms while trying to prove a conspiracy doesn’t exist is already offsides. But it gets worse. Even worse.

Barr seems to have been suspicious of the Mueller investigation even before he was made AG. So he starts with the conclusion that it’s a massive deep state conspiracy and then just tries to prove it – instead of going where the facts lead. And holy crap, where did the facts lead…

Italy

OK, so remember that Barr believes everything about Trump receiving help from Russia is a lie. So since multiple intelligence agencies have confirmed this, he suspects the NSA, theCIA, and British intelligence all conspired to lie. He and Durham flew together to the UK and Italy to try to convince them to publicly backtrack all their intelligence findings.

The thing is, they don’t have any reason to do that. Their findings are robust. British intelligence was really AFRAID that they were being accused of lying. (The American version of pissed, meaning ANGRY — not drunk.) But Italy offered to help with the investigation. They had information about the then-President – “a potentially explosive tip linking Mr. Trump to several suspected financial crimes.”

Yes. You read that right. Italy has some kind of evidence that TRUMP HAS COMMITTED MANY MORE CRIMES. The investigation meant to expose Mueller inadvertently stumbled into more Trump accusations. That means there are only a lot of…

It seems like a good tip, too. According to TheTimes, Barr and Durham “decided the tip was too serious and credible to ignore.” So what did they do? Well, apart from being independent, there is also a special counsel that is focused. Just a single investigation, in this case looking at the Mueller probe. But we don’t think Barr can risk more people finding out about ANOTHER Trump scandal when she bends over backwards trying to protect the guy… because she assigned that investigation to Durham, too! What happened to that investigation? We can’t say for sure that this has been swept under the rug, but here’s what theTimes wrote after their thorough investigation:

“Mr. Durham never filed charges, and it remains unclear what level of investigation this was, what steps he took, what he learned and whether anyone in the White House found out.”

The NYT team doesn’t even know what financial crimes are! So if Durham was told to lose it, he did a great job.

Lying To America

OK, so this brings us back to what Barr said in his BS letter about the Mueller report. Remember how he completely deceived the American people? Heck, he didn’t include a single full sentence from the Mueller report itself in his summary. Like when a critic calls a movie an “unbelievable waste of time” and they just put “…Unbelievable” on the poster!

Well, the hypocrisy continues here. You see, word got out that Durham had been given extra powers of criminal prosecution. Various sources have learned that he is investigating criminal activity. But remember, the special counsel should only investigate ONE CASE. And since everyone knows he’s investigating the Mueller probe, that news is a huge gift to Trump and his supporters. Conspiracy theorists are proven; they now know the Trump-Russia investigation is a hoax, and people are going to jail for it…

Except it’s not a hoax. The criminal investigation is, once again, Trump’s. Even though they try to protect him they cannot stop the crimes.

Barr, of course, did nothing to curb any of this public speculation. He remained silent. And that was not his thing, he kept quiet and carried a big stick. No, he misspoke to the American people. In December 2019, the inspector general completed its own investigation into the Trump-Russia investigation. It has confirmed that the investigation is now underway, and that it began — as previously reported — after an Australian diplomat tipped off that Trump adviser George Papadopoulos knew in advance that Russia would release some hacked Democrat emails (suggesting he knew about the plan and the useful release date for it). Just minutes before that report, Barrdid released a statement… just like the Mueller report, he got there first and indicated the exact opposite of the truth. He said the FBI began their investigation “on the thinnest of suspicions which, in my view, are insufficient.” So yes, he speaks when he wants to. But in the case of people getting the wrong idea about the Trump-Russia case? Yes, he shut up immediately.

The simple conclusion is that Barr wants the American people to believe, as he did, regardless of the evidence, that Trump is innocent and that the entire Trump-Russia investigation is a hoax. In fact, TheTimes also revealed that before the 2020 election, he tried to publicly convey to Durham that Hillary Clinton would be in trouble for the Trump-Russia “fraud.” JFC.

Sadly, it almost worked. Very few people have time to read the Mueller Report, or the IG report, let alone the more complex New York Times. But you know what time your aunt and uncle are? Listen to the Fox News pundits. And read Trump’s tweets (or Facts we guess). They hear TOTAL EXONERATION, they hear TRUMP-RUSSIA HOAX, they hear HILLARY CLINTON, and they hear nothing else. They hear the lie.

It’s like Mark Twain said:

“A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth puts on its shoes.”

Only Mark Twain didn’t say that. But it takes a hell of a lot longer to explain how that quote was probably misconstrued than it is to say Twain said it. And that’s the whole point. Sigh.
