Donald Duck Winchester, 84, passed away at his home on Friday, February 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Duck was born in Edgecombe County to Sherman and Flossie S. Winchester. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: H. Sherman, Ernest Ike and wife Doris, Tommy, Andrew, his twin Ronald and wife Jeannette, and Marion Ruth Winchester. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bobby H. Norris.
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Betty Cummings Winchester and his children: Kendall W. Davis, Robin W. Norris, Robert Winchester and wife Sandra, and Penny W. Thompson; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren: Jennifer W. Taylor (Charles) and their children Eleanor, Charlotte, and Mary Shelton; Jamie D. Woodcock (Nick) and their children Laettner and Lillian; Ashley N. Lancaster (Bucky) and their children Landon, Connor and Ella Nerell; Jared Davis (Cassidy) and their daughter James Madilyn; Jordan Norris (Justine) and their sons Brody and Grant; Kaitlyn Thompson and her daughter Addison; Brian Winchester (Cierra) and their son Hudson. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Irene M. Winchester and Joyce Pilley, his fur baby Ruby Lee, and several nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Duck has a good life enjoying time fishing, hunting, and being with his family. He spent many summers in Atlantic Beach and later in Belhaven with his wife and grandchildren. He spent his working years at Research Cottrell, Longs Trailer Company, and later Henderson Lumber Company. His favorite past time after retirement was working in his shop and gardening. The family would like to thank the staff at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital and Gentiva Hospice for their care.
The family will have visitation at Carlisle Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, February 27, 2023 and other times at their home, 510 W. Walnut Street, Tarboro.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Julian Thompson, Jr. officiating.
