Report: Chrissy Teigen Wasn’t the Only One Trump Tried to Censor Being Bad About Her

Earlier this month, we learned, during a congressional hearing, that in September 2019, the White House asked Twitter to remove a tweet from Chrissy Teigen calling Donald Trump a pussy ass bitch. As Anika Collier Navaroli, a former employee of the company, told lawmakers: Wed received a request from the White House to make sure we’re reviewing this tweet, and they want it down because it’s a misleading statement that directed at the president. Later, in another exchange with a House representative, Navaroli read the entire tweet into the congressional record:

Anyway, we’re reminded that President PAB has the thinnest skin known to many thanks to a new report re: the previously unknown lengths Trump apparently went to to try to sway late-night host Jimmy Kimmel to stop making fun of him.

As Rolling Stone reported over the weekend, in early 2018, the then-president was so incensed by Kimmels’ comedic jabs that he ordered his White House staff to call one of Disney’s top executives to Washington, DC, to complain and seek action, according to people familiar with the matter. (Disney is the parent company of ABC, where Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs.) According to the outlet, In at least two separate phone calls, the White House conveyed the seriousness of the [Trumps] Kimmel hates Disney. Trump wants Disney to take control of the ABC host, which the then-president thinks is very dishonest and has joked that the former real estate developer has already been sued.

And this seems to have been the talk of Washington:

The incident was so strange that news of it spread around the corridors of power in Washington, DC. Other administration officials not involved in the pressure campaign began hearing from their Disney contacts about how confused they were that the White House kept telling them that Trump wanted Kimmel to tone down the his anti-Trump humor.

At least one call was made to Disney [that I know of], a third former official, who worked in the Trump White House, recalled. The sources spoke to Rolling Stone on condition of anonymity to speak freely and to maintain ongoing ties to Trumpworld and conservative groups. I don’t know who it’s for[m], but it happened. Obviously, the campaign to stop Kimmel from mocking Trump was not successful, although it did not stop the leader of the free world from trying to use the full weight of the federal government to silence his critics. As Rolling Stone notes, a few months before the LAffaire du Jimmy, Trumps FCC chairman said the agency would investigate a joke Stephen Colbert made about the president and Vladimir Putin. (An investigation did indeed take place, and Trump would repeatedly ask aides for updates on whether the FCC had made a decision, according to a source who spoke to Rolling Stone. The FCC ultimately did nothing, because , despite Trump’s hopes and dreams, the US is not North Korea.) In 2019, Trump again enlisted the FCC and the Justice Department to see if the government could retaliate against the late-night shows, angered by the no desirable reruns of Saturday Night Live hed happened to catch, as the Daily Beast reported in 2021.
