Tucker Carlson was one of Donald Trump’s biggest allies during his administration while he was on the air. Off the air? It seems to be a very different story based on the anchor texts submitted as evidence in Dominion Voting Systems $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News.

The company sued the network for claiming that its voting equipment was responsible for fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Emails and texts disclosed in court papers, obtained by the Associated Press, show that many of the Fox News personalities were promoting the stolen election on air but bashing Donald Trump behind the closed doors and Carlson’s texts were especially brutal.

I hate him passionately, one of Carlson’s texts about the former president shows how far the hatred has gone. By 2021, he was complaining about the administration of Donald Trump and how little he had accomplished during his tenure. Is everyone pretending we have a lot to show for it because admitting what a disaster it has been is so hard to digest. But okay. Trump really has no opposite, he wrote. Donald Trump is all about honesty, so overt messages like this won’t sit well with him.

These revelations will only inflame the tense relationship between Donald Trumps 2024 campaign and Fox News. They’re turning away from him and focusing on other GOP candidates, but Donald Trump knows he’s hard to ignore and will likely double down on his criticism of Carlson, Rupert Murdoch, and the network that helped get him into the Oval Office in 2016 .
