Donald Ray Brawley of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on March 4, 2023, in Terre Haute, Indiana. Don was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 26, 1952, to George and June Brawley. In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his brother Ricky. He is survived by his two daughters, Sarah (David) Kachman and Amanda Brawley; grandchildren Aaliyah, Desmond, Delmont and Henry; brothers Larry Brawley and Steven Brawley; nephew Jeff Brawley. Don graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Indiana, in 1971. He was the first in his family to attend college, receiving a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He went on to receive a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Florida. Don served as hospital administrator for Vermillion County Hospital in Clinton, Indiana, for many years as well as hospitals in Chicago and Florida prior to that. He retired in 2018 after serving the Wabash Valley as the practice manager for the Wabash Valley Eye Center for several years. Don grew up summering on his family’s land on Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri, where his lifelong love of fishing began and where he also taught his daughters to fish. Don’s fishing skills don’t end at the lake, he can fry up a great fish dinner accompanied by the best green beans you’ve ever eaten. Walking into his room on any given day you will see one of two things on Don’s TV; old western or sports. To say that Don loves St. John’s baseball. Louis Cardinals and IU Hoosiers basketball was a huge understatement and he never missed watching a game if he could help it. Don was an avid classic country music fan and loved his oldies stations, and family trips were always accompanied by these tunes that his daughters both loved. He also loves learning and watches Jeopardy every day and very rarely gets any question wrong. Christmas has always been Don’s favorite holiday. On his birthday the day after Christmas, he spread holiday cheer and even dressed up as Santa to bring holiday cheer to those around him. Don was active in the Washington High School Alumni Association for the class of 1971 as well as the Moose Lodge and Eagles Club in Washington. He loves hanging out with new and old friends, going out for drinks or strolling through walled restaurants in search of good food. Per his wishes, a celebration of Don’s life will be held Saturday, March 25, at the Eagles Club in Washington, Indiana, from noon to 2 p.m. please RSVP to Sarah Kachman at [email protected] or 812-617-3870.
