Tucker Carlson Desperately Tries to Walk Back Donald Trump ‘Hate’

Fox News star Tucker Carlson really wants his MAGA-loving audience to forget that he said he “hates” Donald Trump and believes the former president is “absolutely not upside down” because he is a “demonic force.”

Appearing on conservative radio host Bo Snerdley’s show Monday, Carlson bemoaned the fact that many of his private texts and emails surrounding the 2020 election were made public in the Dominion case. A voting software firm has accused Fox News of deliberately airing baseless claims of election fraud to boost falling ratings after disgruntled Trump supporters abandoned the channel following its election night call in Arizona to to President Joe Biden.

“Tucker, listen, I’ve had a lot of people say they read all these things in the paper—’You hate Trump blah, blah, blah.’ Does Tucker like Trump’s policies, any of his policies?” Snerdely wondered in a clip flagged by Media Matters. “What’s Donald Trump’s deal with you guys?”

Claiming that he had just spent “four years defending his policies” and that he would do the same on his program later that night, the Fox News host revealed that he unquestionably adores the two-time impeached former president.

“I’m pretty straightforward; I love Trump,” Carlson gushed. “Like, as a person, I think Trump is funny and insightful. And I told Trump this when he called me, you know, all wound up about those texts. That was a moment where I was very angry.”

After insisting that he was “angry” that his private messages were “all illegitimately obtained,” and adding “I don’t think I’m allowed to talk about” it, Carlson claimed the text exchange showed his hatred of Trump centered on his disappointment with the former president’s campaign following the election loss.

“Those specific texts were captured at the exact moment where I was texting one of my producers because some idiot in the Trump campaign sent us the names of dead voters who voted,” the far-right exclaims. host. “And we went and I repeated them on the air, and it turned out that some of them were alive. It was just—I was embarrassed.”

The primetime star added that he “thought then” and still believes the election was “off the charts,” so he approached Trump’s team to give him proof that the “election was rigged.” This resulted in the former president’s campaign sending Carlson’s show a list of dead people who voted in the 2020 election. However, the Fox host’s report about “dead voters” blew up in his face, as most of the examples he listed on air proved to be alive.

“Well, some of them are still alive,” Carlson continued. “And I’m very angry at the incompetence of that campaign, which is completely incompetent. I mean, completely you know, I’m like the one guy who’s open-minded about the election being unfair. And that’s what they sent to me? Anyway. Whatever. I was angry. That was a moment in time.

Carlson went on to say that his “views are pretty transparent” while agreeing with Snerdley that his moment of anger “doesn’t represent the whole body of our thoughts.”

Trump, for his part, has publicly distanced himself from Carlson’s texts while insisting he bears no grudges over the primetime star’s alleged hatred of him. “He doesn’t hate me anymore, or at least, not anymore!” Trump posted on his Truth Social site this month praising Carlson’s attempts to whitewash the Jan. 6 insurrection.
