Trump seems to think that if he did it, it wouldn’t be illegal

Forty-six years ago, Richard Nixon said, “When the president does it, that means it’s not illegal. The Republicans didn’t buy it at the time. Apparently, Trump did.

Donald Trump brought classified documents to Mar-A-Lago and said he had every right, even though he was no longer president. He said he did nothing wrong when he paid Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their affair. But her fixer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty and served time for both actions. Worse, Trump may have used campaign funds to pay Ms. Daniels. Now he is charged with 34 felony counts pertaining to him.

This could be just the beginning of Trump’s problems. Soon he may have to testify in a civil rape case involving writer E. Jean Carroll. He still faces potential charges that he interfered in Georgia’s election process.

In October, he may have to testify in a civil case being prepared by New York AG Letitia James involving tax fraud. Sometime in January, Hell faced a lawsuit along with his children and the Trump Corporation over an alleged deceptive marketing scheme.

Finally, special counsel Jack Smith is conducting two investigations that could result in charges, one involving Jan. 6 and another involving classified documents he brought to Mar-a-Lago, and whether he obstructed the government’s investigation and attempts to retrieve those documents.

Meanwhile, what are his main opponents doing? Until now most have said little or nothing. He even posed next to a photo of the Manhattan DA holding a baseball bat. Was the bullying intentional?

A post by Trump on social media warned of death and destruction if he was indicted. The judge in the case and the family in New York were threatened. There is speculation that the judge may need to issue a gag order. The first GOP debate is in August. Pass the popcorn!

A yes all around for Centerra South

After listening to a team of consultants from McWhinney Enterprises at the council meeting on April 4, I am firmly convinced that the intergovernmental agreement for the Centerra South project must be approved by all government entities and move forward. I was impressed with the knowledge and unbiased factual information presented. In addition, there are many other communities across the state that are using tax increment financing for development.

As a Rotarian I applied Rotary’s Four Way Test, a decision-making model in making my decision. The four questions are: Is this the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? The answer to all these questions is “yes.” In the beginning some may not be yes, but in the long run all will definitely be yes. It’s a win-win for the Loveland community.

Do you want to fight corruption? Oppose Trump

A recent anti-corruption letter includes a false statement that we have seen before in RH letters. The writer said that the declaration of independence is the fundamental law that cannot be changed by the United States of America. It was probably when I was in elementary school that my mother taught me that I have an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and feeding me vegetables definitely contradicts the pursuit of happiness. Unfortunately, he understood the structure of US law. The Constitutional Rights Foundation website (https://tinyurl.com/3axsbtfw) agrees with him when it says: “The Declaration of Independence has no legal authority. It is not part of the basic laws of the United States such as the Constitution and Bill of Rights. But its words echo the ideals of the United States.”

The writer also made a mistake when he included Trump among those fighting corruption today. More than one in his business, e.g. Trump University, accused of fraud. And at last count, 10 of his colleagues (Newsweek https://tinyurl.com/2kv6mwmk ), either pleaded guilty to criminal acts or were convicted of the same by juries of their peers. And that’s not even counting the people he shields from justice by preemptively pardoning them. Also, I wish I had a link for this, but a few years ago I read that during a 30-year career in real estate Trump sued someone, or someone sued him an average of once every three days. The first step in the fight against corruption is to remove Trump from the levers of power. Wishful thinking will not change the laws of the United States, nor will it make Trump a principled force for good.
