Donald Trump told a National Rifle Association conference that he would end Joe Bidens anti-gun campaign and vowed to protect property rights forever following several recent mass shootings across the US.

The former president said he will remain a loyal friend and fearless champion of the much-maligned group as he delivered a keynote speech in Indiana on Friday.

Mr Trump appeared for a deposition in New York on Thursday in a civil suit filed against him, his adult children and the Trump Organization by New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleging a decade of fraud. scheme that gave lenders false financial statements that overvalued properties.

His appearance marked his first return to New York since he was indicted on a 34-count criminal indictment on felony charges of falsifying business records. Mr Trump is suing his former lawyer at the center of that case, Michael Cohen, for $500m. Cohen has said he is considering countersuing.

Michael Cohen has suggested he file a countersuit against Donald Trump, which he says should have listened to lawyers who told him doing so was a mistake.
