Former President Donald Trump took credit for the GOP’s turnaround while speaking at a party donor retreat.

Trump declared that the old Republican Party is gone, and it’s not coming back” while portraying himself as the champion needed to make the party unstoppable from dominating American politics for generations to come, according to his statement obtained by Politico.

PENCE PITCHES TRADITIONAL GOP VALUES AND POST-TRUMP FUTURE AT RNC DONOR RETREAT

Republicans are a party known for starting wars abroad, cutting Social Security and Medicare at home, and pushing for mass amnesty for illegal aliens, Trump added, according to the transcript.

An entourage of top Republicans attended the closed-door Republican National Committee donor retreat in Nashville over the weekend at the Four Seasons Hotel.

In typical Trump fashion, his speech covered topics for him, such as the 2020 election and his vision of where the party should be headed in the future. He boasts that he “saved” the GOP from the “establishment class” during his rise to power in 2016.

Trump also promised that he would end the war in Ukraine “shortly after” after returning to the presidency and destroy drug cartels just as we destroyed the ISIS caliphate, according to the report.

Others in attendance seemed to distance themselves from Trump. Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) reportedly urged attendees against seeking the 2020 election and encouraged the party to be more forward-looking.

With voters trying to pay their rent, pay their car or put their kids through college 2020 is ancient history, Kemp said, CNN reported.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, who is mulling a 2024 run, reiterated his longtime contention that the GOP needs to look to the future instead of fielding candidates too focused on the past.
