Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is still mulling a 2024 presidential bid, but he believes he can articulate former President Donald Trump’s political responsibilities better than anyone else, according to an interview with Politico.

The two-term Republican governor told the outlet that Trump’s weaknesses should be “called out and someone who knows him needs to be called out.”

“No one knows Donald Trump better than I do,” he continued.

Christie said he doesn’t believe his criticism of Trump will hurt him among likely GOP primary voters, arguing that they are looking for candidates who can make a case for why they should run against a juggernaut like former president

“I don’t believe that Republican voters have punished people who criticize Trump,” he told Politico. “If you think you’re a better person to be president than Donald Trump, you better make that case.”

Christie went on to say that Trump has a “bountiful buffet” of issues for candidates to raise, including the former president’s statement in December in which he suggested the Constitution could be “finished” because of disproved statements that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

Trump later denied he made the statement.
