The encounter, as E Jean Carroll recalled, was friendly at first.

Ms Carroll, then a magazine feature writer and TV host, met Donald Trump at upmarket New York department store Bergdorf Goodman.

As Ms Carroll wrote in her 2019 memoir What Do We Need Men For?, she recognized him as that female mentor. He knew him as that real-estate tycoon.

Mr Trump told her he was there to buy a present for a little girl, and asked for help choosing an appropriate item.

He places the incident in late 1995 or early 1996, when the future president was married to Marla Maple.

1682325000AOC saying Marjorie Taylor Greene is the real leader of the House GOP

The New York congresswoman sat down with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki on her MSNBC program on Sunday morning.

Asked if she thought Mr McCarthy was actually running the House Republican caucus, Ms Ocasio-Cortez didn’t mince his words.

He wasn’t, he said. I think you got Marjorie Taylor Greene to run in the caucus.

I mean, and he makes very general public statements to that effect. Whenever someone upsets him, he lets it be known that McCarthy is doing his bidding. And I think it’s something that’s pretty clear.

Former US vice-president Mike Pence has refused to condemn the spate of gun attacks on innocent bystanders, suggesting they are the result of rising crime rates.

Asked what could be done to stop the fear and violence, Mr Pence said: Well, our hearts go out to the families of those who lost loved ones in the incidents in Kansas City, and in upstate New York. I just can’t imagine the pain they are going through in that tragedy.

But, he continued, tragedy should not require us to surrender our freedom. And the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms is enshrined in the United States Constitution.

Not knowing the facts of those cases, I am confident that local law enforcement will step up and apply the law appropriately. But I can’t help but suspect that the recent spate of tragedies is evidence of the fear that so many Americans feel about the crime wave sweeping this country.

1682321409Trump touts edited video of Michael Moore satirically praising him

Donald Trump is retweeting a supposed endorsement of left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore without mentioning that the video is satirical.

The former president posted a clip from Mr Moores 2016 documentary Michael Moore on TrumpLand on his Truth Social website on Saturday. The clip has been deceptively edited to cut out the parts where Mr Moore criticizes him.

In the video, the firebrand documentarian predicts that Mr Trump will surf to victory in the 2016 presidential election on a tide of popular anger against America’s elite, but that those who voted for him will soon regret it.

1682317809Trump compared himself to Nixon

Donald Trump has compared himself to Richard Nixon, suggesting he is his own worst enemy just like the disgraced Republican.

He is a very tough person, he is, I think some people would say the same about me, he is his own worst enemy, Mr Trump said in an interview with Mark Levin.

I can say that a little about myself. A lot less than people think I would say.

However, Mr Trump added that he had the support in Congress and within his own Republican party that president Nixon lacked.

I will never forget: when that happened, we had tremendous support. Nixon had no support.

You know, he just doesn’t have the support. He was very, very hard on people. I get along with people. I mean, I have great Jim Jordan and all these congressmen are great. They are really incredible people, Mr Trump continued.

Nixon did not get along with the people in Congress. He doesn’t get along with senators. But the truth is, we have some great people in the Republican Party, but I get along with them, and they stay.

Donald Trumps pre-recorded video appearance at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition event on Saturday night upstaged the GOP presidential candidates who actually showed up in person, according to the New York Times.

Eight candidates vying for the Republican nomination came out for the event, including former vice president Mike Pence, radio personality Larry Elder, former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.

But it was the poor taping of Mr Trumps comments – with mismatched audio and video – that drew the loudest applause at the end of the night, the Times reported.

1682314209Trump says Putin gained a little more ambition after US pullout from Afghanistan

Donald Trump has suggested that Russian president Vladimir Putin should have some ambition after Washington’s hasty and chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

I think this is the most embarrassing period, the way we withdrew not the way we withdrew from Afghanistan, he told Fox News host Mark Levin in an interview that aired last night .

And I think Putin really saw that and he probably got a little bit more ambitious, to be honest.

Mr Trump suggested that General Mark Milley, the joint chief of staff, should be court-martialed for the withdrawal.

When I was gone, they made a withdrawal. Milley should be court-martialed. They made a withdrawal where the soldiers came out first. If you ask a five year old child [for] strategy, the soldiers came out last, Mr Trump said.
