NEW YORK (AP) – A writer has told a jury that Donald Trump raped her after he accompanied her to a deluxe department store fitting room in 1996.

E. Jean Carroll began testifying Wednesday in her federal trial. Trump has denied the Carrolls’ allegations. He said he was not in the store with Carroll and did not know him.

Carroll said that after a chance encounter at Bergdorf Goodman, the two joked about trying on underwear and went into a dressing room.

According to him, Trump suddenly attacked him.

The Associated Press typically does not name people who say they were sexually assaulted unless they go public, as Carroll did.
