Earlier this week, I argued that it seems pretty clear what the outcome of the 2024 presidential race will be: while Biden is not very popular, he will win by some points against Donald Trump, because Trump is equally likely to be the Republican nominee and likely won’t convince swing voters who already rejected him in 2020 (and, indeed, in 2022) to vote for him this time.

Two stories on Friday emphasized that this acquisition was a wise and righteous one. The first, in the Jewish Insider, quoted a number of Republican donors who did not want Trump to be their party’s nominee. But it just quoted one Republican on the subject of how someone other than Trump could win that nomination:

Based on my circle of friends and my informal survey, said Jon Tucker, a GOP activist in Pittsburgh, there is only a fervent hope and prayer that, somehow, Trump will step aside and allow other candidate to return.

Prayer. We’ve heard that before! And it doesn’t work, which makes sense. God has made it clear, at this point, that He will not help us with the Trump mess. We put ourselves in, we put ourselves out. It’s not my problem, God said, turning His attention back to the NBA playoffs.

The second story is about someone who seems to think a lot about Jewish insiders, if you get our drift: Micki Larson-Olson, a convicted Jan. 6 contestant whom Trump met (and hugged) at a Manchester diner, New Hampshire, after he held a rally there Thursday. (Larson-Olson was convicted of resisting police efforts to clean up the Capitol grounds.) Hang in there, the former president told her as he signed her backpack and posed for a photo with her. You’ve been through too much. You’ll be happy, he said, perhaps referring to his plans to pardon convicted Capitol rioters if he becomes president again.

NBC’s Vaughn Hillyard spoke with Larson-Olson earlier and noted on Twitter that he had some interesting insights. Theirs:

Members of Congress who voted to certify the 2020 election (more than 300 of them) should be executed as traitors by military tribunals.

Trump is the real president.

Joe Biden is actually a man wearing a mask (or many people in one version of this theory, more than one actor portrays Biden, and one of them is Jim Carrey).

The United States has been under admiralty law since 1871 (it’s also known in far-right circles, and it’s partly based on some United States flags with gold fringes).

So, yes. This is not the kind of thing the suburban independent voter wants to see.
