BRONX, NY Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Officer and Iraq War veteran Donald Lane will be honored for his military service at Yankee Stadium when the Yankees take on the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, May 3.

Lane, of Lake Katrine, said it felt great to be honored during the on-field ceremony, which will take place in the seventh inning portion of the game before “God Bless America” ​​is played. He said he would be able to stand on the field and wave to the crowd and television cameras before the bottom of the seventh began.

Lane was in the Army from 2009 to 2013 and was stationed at Fort Hood in Texas. He was deployed to Iraq in 2011 for approximately eight months, serving as a radio operator and maintainer with the rank of E4 specialist.

“It’s nice to meet you,” he said. “Veterans are finally getting the recognition and attention they deserve.”

Having entered his name in a lottery for the past year or two, Lane received an email about two weeks ago, letting him choose from select dates. He quickly confirmed that he wanted tickets for the match against the Guardians, which started at 7:05 pm

Lane will be joined by his wife, son and father, who will remain in the stand. He said he expected many more friends to watch on TV.

“My dad was a crazy Yankees fan,” Lane said. “He got me at a young age. My son also fell in love with the game.”

A lifelong Yankees fan who attends at least a few games a year, Lane said it represents a dream come true.

“I’ve never touched that grass,” he said. “It’s very exciting to be on the field that I’ve watched growing up my whole life.”
