E. Jean Carroll’s legal team has released 48 minutes of Donald Trump’s deposition, which was shown to jurors this week in his ongoing rape trial.

The video, which is a collection of segments from a longer deposition, was entered into evidence and shown in Manhattan federal court, where Trump faces civil charges of rape and defamation.

Carroll’s legal team released the video to reporters Friday after a group of media organizations, including Insider, indicated they would ask the judge overseeing the case to order its publication.

The former president appeared low-energy during much of the deposition, speaking in a somber tone as he denied ever knowing Carroll, who accused him of rape, and later berated him by calling him a liar.

Under oath, Trump denied rape

In response to questions at the deposition of Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, Trump continued to deny raping Carroll, as she alleged, and called her “mentally ill” and “not my type .” But when he shows a photo of her meeting him at an event in 1987 about 17 minutes into the video posted above, he confuses her with his then-wife.

“It’s Marla,” Trump said when shown the photo, pointing to Carroll. “That’s Marla, yes. That’s my wife.”

Alina Habba, Trump’s attorney, corrected him during the deposition.

“No, that’s Carroll,” Habba said.

“It’s very vague,” Trump responded.

Trump said he had never met Carroll. But a photo submitted by Carroll in the lawsuit shows the two at a party in 1987 (Trump is far left and Carroll is second left). E. Jean Carroll

Trump sat down for the deposition at Trump Tower on October 19. Transcripts of some parts were already published in legal filings in January.

Carroll, a former longtime Elle magazine columnist and talk show host, said Trump raped her in the dressing room of the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan in the spring of 1996. The two met, she said, and he agreed to help. he is shopping for a present for a girl. The two went to the lingerie section of the store and joked about Trump wearing a lacy bodysuit, according to Carroll.

According to Carroll, the two entered a dressing room, where Trump pinned her against the wall and raped her. The next day, he told two of his friends about the incident, both of whom testified at the trial this week. The three women kept the story under wraps until Carroll went public with her statements in 2019, during which Trump denied ever knowing her and called her a lying political operative.

In the deposition, Trump said he rarely bought gifts for the women he dated and denied that he dated other women while married to Maples. The billionaire said he doesn’t remember shopping at Bergdorf Goodman, the luxury department store a block away from Trump Tower. In another part of the deposition, he said he went there “very rarely.”

Trump also repeated his claim that Carroll was not his “type.”

“I say this as respectfully as I can, he’s not my type,” Trump said. “I do not type in any way, shape, or form.”

Trump said the same thing to Kaplan, which got him fired.

“I wouldn’t pick you either,” Trump said. “I hope you weren’t insulted. I’m being honest.”

Her voice cracked as she denied raping Carroll, and disputed the allegations as part of a political conspiracy.

“She’s accusing me of raping her. It’s not true,” he told Kaplan. “And you know it’s not true, you’re also a political operative. You’re embarrassing.”

Trump says a ‘star’ is allowed to grab women by genitalia

During the deposition, Trump was shown the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which, in 2005, he bragged to TV personality Billy Bush about sexually assaulting women.

He sat stony while he played. Trump defended his words as “locker room talk” and said his comments about women allowing themselves to be hijacked by anyone who is a “star” were accurate. He said he personally qualifies as a “star.”

“If you look over the last million years, that’s more true,” Trump said. “Unfortunately or fortunately.”

Kaplan also asked Trump about his claim on social media that Carroll said he “disturbed” him. Trump doesn’t seem to know what the word means, saying it’s a substitute for “an action he said happened that didn’t happen and it’s better than a word that starts with F.”

Trump appeared to mix up different timeframes throughout the deposition video shown to jurors.

He said he was not sure of the dates of his several marriages. He also said that a “fabulous” article about him by former People magazine journalist Natasha Stoynoff was published “months” before he was accused of raping her while she was reporting it, when it actually happened. -published more than a decade ago. Asked when he married Melania Trump, his third and current wife, Trump said he wasn’t sure (it was January 2005).

Trump has sat for several depositions as part of legal challenges since he left the presidency in 2021. The one he took for Carroll’s case was the first to be made public. This is also the first time that he personally went through the trial in a legal case. Others were dismissed or settled before they went to trial, or were against his company but not him as an individual.

Trump’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, said Trump did not testify at Carroll’s trial, and rested the defense’s case Thursday afternoon without bringing any witnesses. The judge gave Trump’s legal team until 5 p.m. Sunday to file a motion asking to reopen the case if Trump changes his mind.

If Trump doesn’t appear as he hasn’t during the entire trial, closing arguments are scheduled for Monday, with jury deliberations set to begin Tuesday morning.
