Trump deposition video in E. Jean Carroll case released

Video of President Trump’s deposition in the E. Jean Carroll case was released Friday.

The 48 minutes of footage show Trump responding to questions from Carroll’s attorney about the writer’s claims that he raped her in the mid-1990s. Trump has denied his allegations.

Carroll sued Trump in federal court in New York City, accusing him of sexual battery and defamation.

A transcript of the deposition was previously disclosed in court filings, and portions of the video were played for jurors earlier this week, but the footage was not released publicly until Friday.

Two journalists asked the court to release the footage.

Closing arguments are expected on Monday.

Trump defends Access Hollywood tape

During the deposition, Trump repeatedly denied Carroll’s claims while attacking her appearance and claiming the case was a hoax.

Carroll’s attorneys played for Trump the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape that surfaced before the 2016 presidential election, in which Trump was heard making lewd comments about women grabbing the television host Billy Bush.

Trump defended his comments at the deposition as “locker room talk.”

Trump mistook Carroll for his ex-wife

At one point during Trump’s impeachment, Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, showed the former president a one-year-old photo of her and Carroll in a reception line. When Trump saw the photo, Trump mistook Carroll for his ex-wife, Marla Maples.

“That’s Marla, yes. That’s my wife,” Trump said.

“Which girl are you teaching?” Kaplan answered.

Trump’s attorney Alina Habba then interjected, “No, that’s Carroll.”

Trump commented on the lawyer’s appearance

Near the end of his testimony, Kaplan also played Trump a video of him at a campaign rally denying the claims of another woman, Jessica Leeds. Leeds accused Trump of groping her on a flight in 1979 and testified at trial on Carroll’s behalf.

Trump said at the rally that she was not his “first choice.”

After the video was played, Trump again denied Leeds’ claims in his deposition before turning his focus back to Kaplan.

“You wouldn’t be my choice either, to be honest with you,” Trump said. “I hope you were not insulted. I will not have any interest in you under any circumstances.”

“I’m honest when I say this,” he added.
