Last week, Eric Trump made it clear that he and his father, former US President Donald Trump, would be very receptive to hosting a future LIV Golf event at Doonbeg Links in Co. Clare, owned by Trump. And that interest seems to be mutual.
This week, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman spoke about the possibility of LIV Golf playing an event in Ireland in the future. Norman confirmed that an event in Ireland is something the league will consider in the next 2-5 years.
“We are looking at 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 now,” Norman told the BBC. “The popularity and success spoke for itself so yes, countries like Ireland that are passionate golf countries, passionate destination countries, not just for Americans but for Europeans to play there.
“I’ve built golf courses there that I’m very proud of, so from my perspective, we’re going to keep all options open.”
As Norman noted, the Doonbeg Links course that Trump currently owns was “originally designed” by Norman. So it’s likely that the LIV Golf CEO will be attracted to that course. Plus, LIV Golf has played multiple events at Trump golf courses in the past, so the relationship already exists.
