Donald Trump failed to acknowledge his wife Melania in a Mother’s Day tribute message shared on social media.
On her social media platform Truth Social over the weekend, the 76-year-old penned a message for all mothers.
“Happy Mother’s Day to ALL, especially Mothers, Wives and Lovers of Radical Left Fascists, Marxists, and Communists who are doing everything in their power to destroy and destroy our once great Nation,” she posted.
“Please make these complete Lunatics and Maniacs Kinder, Gentler, Softer and, most of all, Smarter, so we can quickly MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
However, attention soon turned to the fact that he did not neglect to recognize Melania, or any of his ex-wives.
Trump married Melania in 2005, and the couple shares a 17-year-old son, Barron.
He also shares youngest daughter Tiffany Trump, 29, with second wife Marla Maples, and his three eldest children – Ivanka, Donald Jr and Eric – with his first wife Ivanka, who died in July.
The slight came just days after Melania told Fox News it would be a “privilege” to serve as US first lady again if her husband is re-elected in 2024.
“My husband achieved tremendous success in his first administration, and he can lead us again to greatness and prosperity,” he said.
“He has my support, and we look forward to restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength.”
She added that as first lady, she will continue to work on initiatives focused on the welfare and development of children, to ensure they have “the support and resources they need to reach their full potential”.
It also comes after Donald Trump was found liable and ordered to pay $US5 million ($A7.4 million) in damages for sexual abuse and defamation in a civil suit brought by journalist E. Jean Carroll, who allegedly raped her in a department. store almost three decades ago.
The former president denied any wrongdoing, and announced plans to appeal the decision.
