How Donald Trump affected Ted Lasso, according to Jason Sudeikis

Ted Lassos perpetual optimism was inspired by Donald Trump, according to Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis.

When Sudeikis first created the fictional soccer coach, the character was combative, he said in an interview with The Guardian.

On a dinner date in 2015 with his then-fiancée Olivia Wilde, Sudeikis wondered if he could revisit a character called Ted Lasso that he created for a comedy skit two years earlier, according to The Guardian.

The current political climate has prompted Sudiekis to take his Ted Lasso character from the belligerent to the kind, enthusiastic and positive-quote-obsessed character we were introduced to at the height of the 2020 pandemic.

This is the culture we live in, Sudeikis told The Guardian. I’m not very active online and it still affected me. Then you have Donald Trump coming down the escalator. I was like, OK, this is stupid, and then what he unlocked with people I hate how people don’t listen to each other.

Things have become binary and I don’t think that’s the way the world works. And, as new parents, we had our son Otis in 2014, I was like, Boy, I hate to add this. Yeah, I just didn’t want to portray it, Sudeikis continued.

The third and final season of Ted Lasso landed on Apple TV+ in March. Fans of the wildly popular, Emmy-award winning comedy series may not be happy to say goodbye to the series after just three seasons, but Sudeikis has a word of Ted Lasso-esque advice to fans not to cry it’s over that, but smiled that it happened, he told The Guardian.

That was something we talked about on our last day of filming, Sudeikis told The Guardian. The show may be over, but here’s what we learned. Its not like Vegas: what happened here, stays here. No, what happened here, take it, take it to your village, take it to your family, take it to your next project. True. Aren’t funerals not always about celebrating the dead, but also about remembering that you’re alive?

What is Ted Lasso’s rating and why?

Ted Lasso is rated TV-MA for strong language and subtle sexual references. It’s also full of positive messages, good role models and diverse representation, according to Common Sense Media.

How to watch Ted Lasso
