Ron DeSantis may be running against Donald Trump for President, but he says he would immediately look into pardoning the former President and the January 6 rioters that Trump incited if he wins the White House.

Responding to an interview question about “Clay and Buck,” Florida’s Governor opened the door for clemency actions on “Day One” related to the attempt to stop the certification of the 2020 Presidential Election.

“The Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been weaponized. We see that in different contexts,” DeSantis argued.

“And what I’m going to do is on Day One, I’m going to have people come together and look at all these cases (where) people are victims of weapons or political targeting and we’re going to be aggressive about -issue of pardons.”

He argued that prosecutors do not equally pursue justice.

“Some of these cases, some people may have technically broken the law. But if there were three other people who did the same thing, but in a context like Black Lives Matter, and they didn’t— prosecute, that is an unequal application of justice,” DeSantis added.

“And so we’re going to find ways where that doesn’t happen and then we’re going to use the power of forgiveness and I’m going to do that on the front end.”

And Florida’s Governor said he would consider these pardons sooner rather than later, should he win the White House.

“Many people are waiting until the end of the administration to issue a pardon. We will look for examples where the government has been weaponized against disfavored groups and we will apply relief where appropriate, but it will be done on a case-by-case basis because I think you have to make sure there is totality. group of cases that don’t necessarily get headlines,” DeSantis said.

When asked again about Trump specifically, DeSantis said, “Any example of disfavored treatment based on politics or weapons will be included in that review no matter how small or how big.”

DeSantis has played down the significance of the January 6 uprising since it happened.
