Donald Trump’s camp is using Chris Christie to bait Ron DeSantis

Chris Christie’s entry into the 2024 Republican presidential race means that Ron DeSantis is vulnerable. At least, that’s the spin put out by Make America Great Again Inc.

The super PAC affiliated with Donald Trump says the Florida Governor’s campaign is “spiraling,” leaving an opening for a second-place finish.

“Ron DeSantis’ campaign is in full swing, and President Trump’s dominance of the Republican Primary field has unleashed a mad rush to seize the mantle for the runner-up. Ron DeSantis is not ready for this moment, and will not -Chris Christie would be wasting his time eating DeSantis’ lunch,” said MAGA Inc. spox Karoline Leavitt.

Christie, who has been a nonfactor in the 2024 field polls, has trolled DeSantis for months, suggesting he might be an anti-DeSantis debate spoiler similar to his role in 2016 against Marco Rubio.

Addressing DeSantis as not knowing what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to pacify some kind of relationship, the politician-turned-commentator told POLITICO in April that the statement was too subtle and a sign of the weakness of the Florida Governors.

Oh, so you have to prove to me that you’re tough enough to fight Donald Trump? This is a guy who said Ted Cruzswife is ugly. Like, you think he cares that you did a little sideswipe on him?

In the same interview, Christie also criticized DeSantis for his inability to find consistent rhetoric on the war in Ukraine, saying that the moment he is criticized about something, he ends up saying the exact opposite.

Christie also chided DeSantis for his continued attacks on The Walt Disney Co., suggesting the Governor isn’t really on the Right.

“I don’t think Ron DeSantis is a conservative based on his actions toward Disney,” he said.

Where are we headed now, that if you express dissent in this country, the government allows you to punish you? To me, that’s what I always thought liberals did, and now all of a sudden here we are participating in this with a Republican Governor.

Christie went on to say that DeSantis’ handling of the Disney drama calls into question his ability to deal with evil leaders on the world stage.

That’s not the guy I want sitting across from PresidentXi(Jinping) and negotiating our next deal with China, or sitting across from (Vladimir)Putina and trying to sort out what’s going on in Ukraine. If you can’t see a corner that (Disney CEO) Bob Iger has done for you. I don’t think that’s too imposing.

Last year, Christie suggested it would take a long time for him to find a way to attack DeSantis.
