Why all Americans should be concerned about the political persecution of Donald Trump – The Fort Morgan Times

[ad_1]

Earlier this month, Joe Bidens Justice Department launched a political attack on a prominent political opponent of Joe Biden.

The DOJ’s decision to prosecute former President Donald J. Trump for the common mistake that Joe Biden, Mike Pence, and Hillary Clinton made and got away with is a gross miscarriage of justice.

And it is an action that should deeply concern all Americans, regardless of political affiliation.

Why? Because it is a new weapon in the war of the Left against their political opponents. And it won’t end with Donald Trump.

Even more absurd is the DOJ’s use of the Espionage Act in these indictments. President Trump did not pocket or hand these documents over to foreign powers. He did not use these documents to commit espionage against the United States. His so-called crime is keeping classified documents from his presidency the same thing that countless other Presidents and Vice Presidents have done before him.

And, who else recently failed to turn over classified documents after they left office?

Joe Biden.

Earlier this year, news broke that Biden had kept classified documents from his time as US Vice President and Senator. He even stored some of the documents in his garage next to his Corvette. Hunter Biden and many others had access to this house during the years when these documents were not secured. To make it even more egregious, Biden did this as Vice President, meaning the Presidential Records Act does not apply to him. So far, and unsurprisingly, the DOJ has not charged President Biden.

Likewise, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was famously unindicted in 2016, even after it was discovered that she mishandled classified documents by using a private and unsecured email server for both personal and official business during his tenure at the US State Department. The FBI director at the time called it grossly negligent. However, no charges were filed while she was running in a close race against Donald Trump in 2016.

We cannot have two different sets of justices in this country: one set for Donald Trump and one set for the Democrats.

Ironically, the DOJ chose to indict Donald Trump on the very day that information came out accusing Joe Biden of taking foreign bribes. Some might say it was a suspiciously successful tactic meant to shift news coverage away from that topic and the 17 phone calls recorded between Biden and foreign nationals.

Joe Bidens DOJ chose to use the Department to try and get the top candidate that Biden could face in the 2024 election. This is the definition of political prosecution.

In America, we do things differently than the third-world countries that the Left seems so focused on making us less than we used to be. We have a Constitution and a set of laws. We are a Republic that has repeatedly resisted the temptation common to Communist and Socialist countries around the world: using government power to prosecute, imprison, and punish political opponents.

Democrats don’t like Donald Trump; that’s been clear since the day he rode the golden escalator to Trump Tower. He is loud, frank, bombastic; a warrior who never gives up no matter how strong he is. But these are also the reasons why many Republicans in Colorado and across the country will continue to stand with him.

Both President Biden and his Justice Department erred politically and legally by carelessly charging down this road, and we will not let them get away with it.

Regardless of who you plan to vote for in the 2024 election, you should still be concerned about the political weaponization of the American justice system. This is not the American way, and it will have lasting consequences.

This partisan prosecution by President Trump will further undermine the American people’s faith in our government. It’s a shame because it shouldn’t be like this.

I predict that many will look back years from now and look at this decision with regret.
