In a preview of Donald Trump’s exclusive interview with Fox News host Bret Baier released Monday, the former president, who faces espionage charges after mishandling classified documents and refusing to turn them over, said he did not return the boxes of hundreds of documents. he went to his Mar-a-Lago estate because he was “very busy.”
When Baier asked why he didn’t turn over the documents to the Department of Justice after being subpoenaed, Trump, speaking to the Fox News interviewer continuously in the clip, explained that he had personal items mixed with the secrets of state.
“I wanted to go through the boxes and take out all my personal things. I didn’t want to give that away,” he said. “And I’ve been busy, as you can see.”
Trump also appeared to deny requests to turn over classified material and denied receiving a subpoena from the DOJ.
Baier, who called the network after the clip aired, referred to Trump as “defiant.” He said of Trump, “He absolutely denies some of the things that are specifically laid out in the indictments.”
He promises that the interview, which is more than an hour long, “runs the gamut.” This is the first sit-down interview the former president has done since being arraigned at the Miami courthouse on Tuesday.
“Every question you think you want to ask the former president, we got some iteration of it,” Baier assured.
Watch the video preview above. The first part of the interview will air Monday night on Fox News.
