The special counsel investigating Donald Trump’s retention of classified and secret documents after leaving the White House has asked a judge to delay the start of the former president’s trial until December.
Jack Smith filed papers in Miami last night, asking judge Aileen Cannon to push the start of the hearing back to Dec. 11. Cannon, a Trump-appointee, earlier this week set the initial date of August 14 for the start of the Trumps trial.
Smith said the earlier date would deny either the attorney for the defendant or the attorney for the government the reasonable time necessary for effective preparation.
