I am so, so sorry for these former Donald Trump staffers who have now found a conscience, of sorts. Apparently, they were disgusted by Trump’s description, in vivid anatomical detail, of how he likes to have sex with his adult daughter, Ivanka (who, by the way, worked in the White House with him, and some of them).
Those details come from a forthcoming book, Blowback: A Warning to Save Democracy from the Next Trump, by Miles Taylor, the former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security who wrote an anonymous 2018 New York Times op-ed, I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration.
By the way, Miles did a lot of good, being indicted by Trump on espionage charges and a role in inciting the January 6 insurrection. Dude, I did more than you did to fight Trump . So is my dog Sadie.
Taylor wrote, aides said he talked about Ivanka Trump’s breasts, her backside, and what it might feel like to have sex with her, statements that once led to [former chief of staff] John Kelly to remind the president that Ivanka is his daughter. More From Joan Walsh
He continued: Kelly then retold me that story visibly disgusted. Trump, he said, is a very, very bad man. Kellys mentee, Kirstjen Nielsen, who succeeded him as secretary of homeland security and supported (and some say promoted) his family separation policies, seemed to whisper to Taylor, Trust me, this is not a healthy workplace for women.
But those of us who have followed Trump’s long career in political and financial corruption as well as his personal depravity are not surprised to learn of his dire hunger for his lonely and conniving daughter. Trump told the shocked ladies of The View: If Ivanka wasn’t my daughter, I’d probably be dating her. Perhaps worst of all were his comments about his baby daughter, Tiffany, whom he compared to her mother, Marla Maples, explaining: I think she got a lot from Marla, she’s really a nice baby, Trump said. He got Marlas’ feet. We don’t know if he got this part or not but time will tell. Then she brought her little hands up to her chest to mimic breasts.
In 2016, the Washington Post cataloged Ivanka’s most outrageous comments in Trump: Current Issues
1) You know who is one of the great beauties of the world, according to everyone? And I helped him create. Ivanka. Ivanka is my daughter. Shes 6 feet tall, she got the best body. She has made a lot of money as a super model. Trump said this on Howard Stern’s radio show in 2003, Politico reported.
2) Ivanka is a great, great beauty. Every man in the country wants to go out with my daughter. But he had a girlfriend. Trump said this in a New York Magazine profile in 2004.
3) I don’t think Ivanka would do that internally [Playboy] magazine. Although she has a very good figure. I said that if Ivanka wasn’t my daughter, I would probably divorce her.
4) Yeah, she really something, and what a beauty, that one. If I’m not happily married and, you know, her father Trump said this in a 2015 interview with Paul Solararoff for the September issue of Rolling Stone.
So no one should have been shocked by what he said about Ivanka to White House staff. If you work for him, you know that stuff. Oh I know, its kinda graphic, maybe surprising hed say it in public. But this shouldn’t come as a shock.
As for the supposed moral outrage of Trump’s staff who heard him, I wouldn’t say that John Kelly is a very bad person, as he refers to Trump. But he’s pretty fucking bad. He supports Trump and supports his worst excesses, especially when it comes to immigrants. I am sorry that his morals were hurt by Trump’s incestuous perversion, but not by Trump’s mistreatment of immigrants, through policies he supported and helped create.
Meanwhile, Kirstjen Nielsens feminist stands in the workplace environment: Wow, what a great hero! Are the border camps you helped establish healthy for women or children, Kirstjen? He defended them, valiantly, in June 2018, partly denying they existed, partly insisting they were legal, while earlier his agency admitted it had separated nearly 2,000 children from adults inside for six weeks on the southern border of the US.
Last year, he joined the Swiss firm Astra Protocol as a strategic adviser, an alleged financial compliance firm that looks like a great new vehicle for high-tech money laundering, along with the former chief of staff of Trump Mick Mulvaney. Kelly immediately went to work for for-profit shelters that took advantage of separated migrant families.
Miles Taylor is a contributor to MSNBC and writes well-paid books.
Donald Trump could go to jail. These people, who did not speak publicly, behind their own names, when they had the opportunity, are developing and will continue to develop. Ivanka would go on to be the daughter of a man she trusted to be accused of sexual assault, which she ignored, even as she ignored her own sexual abuse. He was a victim, in my opinion, but as some victims are sad to do, he became a collaborator.
I became an advocate of a popular front when it came to Donald Trump, enlisting the support of former political sparring partners like Tim Miller, Tom Nichols, Jennifer Rubin, Rick Wilson, Charlie Sykes, Mona Charen (and many more). But this book pissed me off. If you care about women’s rights, by all means, you fought Trump not worked for him. None of these people can wash off the smell of Complicit now.
