Gay rights groups accused Ron DeSantis of homophobia after a presidential campaign Twitter account for the Florida governor shared a video attacking Donald Trump for his past support for LGBT people.
The video, shared by the DeSantis War Room Twitter account, showed Trump declaring: I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens. The former president was speaking at the Republican National Convention in 2016, days after the shooting at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, that killed 49 people.
To a sparkling pop soundtrack, Trump was shown saying he would allow Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympic athlete who came out as a transgender woman, to use any bathroom she chose at Trump Tower. The video
