Donald Trump Jr’s Australian speaking tour postponed after visa delay

Donald Trump Jr has postponed his controversial speaking tour in Australia after a visa delay.

Trump, the eldest son of former US president Donald Trump, is scheduled to speak in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane from July 9-11.

However, in a release, tour partners Turning Point Australia said overnight that the dates had to be rescheduled.

They said Trump’s visa was only received “late afternoon” yesterday, 24 hours before the conservative activist was due to board a plane for Australia.

Turning Point Australia says the tour has already sold 8000 tickets in three states, including the sale of all “VIP” tickets, which cost $2500.

“Ticket holders are urged to hold on to their tickets, with details of the rescheduled date to be confirmed in the coming days,” the Australian website for Trump Live said.

A spokesman for the Department of Home Affairs said it did not comment on individual cases.

“The Australian Government will continue to act decisively to protect the community from the risk of harm caused by individuals who choose to engage in criminal activity or conduct of concern, including visa cancellation or refusal where appropriate, ” said the spokesperson.

“All non-citizens who wish to enter or remain in Australia must meet the requirements of the Migration Act 1958 (the Act) and the Migration Regulations 1994, including identity, health, security and character requirements.”

“It’s his choice if he comes or not but there is an immigration impediment to him coming,” the spokesperson for the Minister of Home Affairs, Clare O’Neil, told the Sydney Morning Herald.
