Donald W Cone Sr, 74, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at his home in Bates City, MO. Don was born in Fayette, MO to William and Emma Lee Cone. Immediately after graduating high school, Don enlisted in the Army and fought in Vietnam. After his military service, Don used his skills and talents to build homes, where there was no part of the process he couldn’t do.
Those who know Don will say that he is a ‘tell-it-like-it-is’ person who will give you his unbiased opinion. However, many were also privileged to experience his gentle, thoughtful, and loving side. Don was kind and generous with his time. He is always thinking of a new project (he can build almost anything) to do and it is common for others to join him, to learn from him and share in the fun. Don was also known for his corny Cone jokes and making people smile.
Don and Diane (nee Reinhart) were married in 2011 in Independence, MO. The couple settled in Bates City, where Don’s carpentry talents combined with Dianes green thumb and attention to detail to create a peaceful oasis they enjoyed together and often shared with family. and friends.
Don is survived by his wife Diane, sons Johnny [Lauren]Jamie [Mike], and Donny; additional children: Ron [Dee]Melissa [Jim]Matt [Sarah], 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brothers Bobby and Billy, and Sissy Denise. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a celebration of life at Cross Creek Baptist Church,1050 SW 15th St, Oak Grove, MO 64075, on Sunday, July 16th, followed by a ceremony at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Dons memory to Cross Creek Baptist Church or Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation.
Don is greatly missed, but we rejoice that he is well again and with our Heavenly Father.
