Ron DeSantis has fired a dozen staffers from his presidential campaign as he falls further behind Donald Trump in the Republican primary race.
Mid-level staff from several departments have been laid off as the DeSantiss campaign faces donor angst. The sackings, first reported by NBC News, come after the departure of other senior aides as the Florida governor struggles to impeach Trump.
Once seen as Trump’s most formidable challenger for next year’s Republican nomination, DeSantis has struggled on the national stage since launching his run for the White House less than two months ago.
The Florida governor trails Trump by nearly 40 points in some national polls and is trailing the former president in the early stages of the battleground.
