Donald Fulton Mears, age 92 of Elon NC, passed away July 21, 2023 at The Hospice Home after a brief illness.

He was born November 10, 1930, in Parksley, VA to the late Joe R. Mears and Minnie Lewis Mears. Survivors include her son, David Mears and wife Janette, of Amherst VA; his daughter, Susan Mears Nance and husband Joel, of Raleigh NC; five grandchildren, Jessica Mears Markey and husband, Bobby, Jonathan Mears, Jason Nance, Daniel Nance, Kelly Nance; and a great-grandson, Luke Markey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Berry Mears; four brothers, Philbert Mears, Edward Mears, Gordon Mears, Richard Mears; and a sister, Jacqueline Mears Pfeifer.

Donald was a veteran of the United States Army where he received a Bronze Star for his service in the Korean War. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired from AT&T Technologies after 31 years of service and spent many active years in retirement fishing in the Chesapeake Bay and tending to his garden at home. He will be remembered for his love of family, sharp mind, and selfless giving of his time and handyman skills to fix almost anything that broke.

A private entombment will be held at Alamance Memorial Park at a later date.
