Giuliani’s former colleague turned over documents to the special counsel this week

Special counsel Jack Smith received more documents this week as part of his investigation into efforts to subvert the 2020 presidential election.

The attorney representing former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik said he turned over thousands of pages of documents to Smith’s office over the weekend.

Attorney Tim Parlatore said Monday that he submitted the records to Smith’s office on Sunday.

I shared all these documents, about 600MB, mostly pdfs, with the Special Counsel and hope to be with them in about 2 weeks to discuss, Parlatore said in a statement.

Trump criticized the targeted letter from the special counsel

Trump said earlier this month that he had been notified that he was the target of an investigation by a Washington-based grand jury looking into the Jan. 6 riots and efforts to subvert the 2020 election.

The deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Bidens DOJ, sent a letter (again, Sunday night!) stating that I was a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation, and giving me a very short 4 days to report to the grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and indictment, he posted on his Truth Socialaccount.

Trump said that effectively means he will be impeached a third time. He added that he is Joe Bidens NUMBER ONE POLITICAL OPPONENT, who is overwhelmingly dominating him in the race for the Presidency.

It was not immediately clear what the charges were or if anyone had received the targeted letter. People found to be targets of criminal investigations are often, but not always, charged.

The special counsel’s letter targeting Trump cites three federal laws

The letter Trump received from Smith informing him that he was a target of a federal investigation into efforts to subvert the 2020 presidential election cited three federal laws related to deprivation of rights, conspiracy to defraud the US, and tampering with a witness.

Those three federal laws were included in the letter Trump said he received earlier this month, according to two lawyers with direct knowledge of the document. The context surrounding the laws cited in the targeting letter is unclear, and their inclusion in the letter does not mean Trump will be charged with the relevant counts or that an indictment is limited to just those three laws.

Dozens of witnesses testified as the Jan. 6 focused grand jury investigates Trump

Federal grand jurors examining Trump’s attempts to prevent the transition of presidential power after his 2020 election loss have heard testimony from dozens of witnesses in a wide-ranging probe examining his conduct spanning the time from before Election Day to the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, an NBC News analysis found.

Smith, who was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November to oversee investigations into Trump’s handling of classified documents and his efforts to stay in power, has led a wide-ranging investigation in the nearly eight months since.

While a grand jury in Miami indictedTrump on 37 counts of seven federal charges in early June related to the investigation of documents and suspected efforts to obstruct it, a federal grand jury in Washington continues to meet on the third floor of the E. Barrett Prettyman US Courthouse in the 2020 election inquiry.
