In his first round at the Palmetto Championship in Congaree, Luke Donald hit 11 of 14 fairways and 12 of 18 regulatory greens, finishing even-par for the tournament. Donald finished his round tied at 53rd on equal par; Erik van Rooyen, Chesson Hadley, Wes Roach, Dustin Johnson, and Doc Redman tied for 1st out of 6th under; Chris Baker and Jhonattan Vegas tied for 6th out of 5 under; and Sam Ryder, Roger Sloan, Nick Taylor, Vaughn Taylor, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Chez Reavie, Harris English, Tain Lee, Patrick Rodgers, and Danny Lee tied for 8th out of 4th under.
After a 281-yard drive at 595-yard par-5 seconds, Donald cut his third shot to 4 feet, which he combined for a crown birdie on the hole. It moved Donald to 1 in the bottom for the round.
In the par-4 third, Donald’s 93-yard approach to 4 feet set himself up for a birdie on the hole. It moved Donald to 2 under for the round.
In the 170-yard par-3 fifth, Donald rode in 2 and missed a bogey putt from 4 feet to finish on the 3-putt which was a double bogey. It moved Donald evenly for the round.
After a drive on the left side of the lane on the 520-yard par-4 sixth hole, Donald had a 154-yard approach, preparing himself for the birdie. It moved Donald to 1 in the bottom for the round.
In the 195-yard par-3 seventh, Donald hit the green from the tee but had a three-putt after missing a putt from 9-feet for a par and ending in a bogey. It put Donald even for the rotation.
On the 490-yard par-4 11th hole, Donald hit the green on 2 and sunk a 28-foot putt for a birdie. It moved Donald to 1 in the bottom for the round.
In the 465-yard par-4 13th, Donald rode in 3 and missed his bogey putt from 5 feet, ending in a 3-putt double bogey. It moved Donald to 1 for the round.
Donald hit his tee shot in the native area, he hit his next shot on the green and went down for a birdie in the par-4 15th. It moved Donald evenly for the round.
