Donald J. Shymanski passed away peacefully in Dec. 8, 2020, at Geisinger Medical Center after an illness.
A native of Plymouth, Donald was born on December 16, 1935, son of the late Michael and Constance Chehutski Shymanski. God blessed him with 84 good years. Donald is ready to join his parents, brother Bobby, son -in -law Richard Goodall and countless friends and family. We found comfort in knowing that and we hope so too.
After graduating from Plymouth High School, Donald served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Donald was always proud of his military service and was greatly honored when his grandson, Kenneth McDaniels, enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
As a small child, Donald worked with his father in the Plymouth mines and when he told stories, they were stories of admiration and hard work, never complaining. Donald worked for 25-plus years as a zoning officer for Luzerne County and met many people on his travels that he considered longtime friends. Throughout his life, he was a hard worker. He has been in business many times, running a pizza parlor, grocery store and lunch. He wants to stay. If you are lucky enough to meet Donald, you will know that he is a kind soul and will leave a lasting impression on everyone he meets.
Donald is a member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth. He was an avid hunter and spent countless hours hunting with his father and traveling with his brother Jims in his later years. She enjoys family reunions, recounting times gone by, going on rides, passing by to visit her sister Marilyn, at the lake and fishing. She has a very loving and generous way about him. She has many stories that she will share with us throughout the year and we have always loved her and smiled. He is always there to give help.
Anyone who knows Don knows that his family always comes first. He was a loving son and brother. Many days he didn’t visit with his parents on Shawnee Avenue just to visit and enjoy a hot meal. He spends many days and nights going to football, basketball, swimming, soccer and school events for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving family, six children, Eric Shymanski and wife Reetha, Florida; Bernard Bezdezieck, Florida; Pamela Goodall, Moscow; Jacqueline Kahley and her partner, Steven Warman; Donna Collins and her partner Frank Pilch, Wilkes Barre; Shannon Zimmerman and husband, Hank Zimmerman.
Donald also leaves behind five siblings James Shymanski and wife Teresa, Iowa; Marilyn Kuschke, Harveys Lake; Patricia Jola, Nanticoke; Rita Courtney, Dallas; and Louise Pavesi, New York; many nieces and nephews.
She will sadly miss her grandchildren, Kenneth McDaniels, Ricky Goodall, Shelby Zimmerman and Nathan Zimmerman. Although he loved all of his grandchildren, he had a special bond with his first grandchild, Kenny McDaniels, who made his Pappy very proud when he joined the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Constance; brother, Robert Shymanski, and his son -in -law, Richard Goodall.
He will be remembered by all who know him as an adult.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and staff of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Geisinger Medical Center for the care they have given her over the years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in All Saints Parish, Plymouth, followed by a military ceremony in the prayer garden at St.
