Former President Donald Trump issued a statement regarding the politics of the Department of Justice, following the announcement of a lawsuit against the state of Georgia over a recently passed election bill.
The right of all eligible citizens to vote is the central pillar of our democracy, the right from which all other rights flow, Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement announcing the decision.
“This lawsuit is the first step of much we are doing to ensure that all eligible voters can vote; that all votes that are lawfully counted; and that every voter has access to accurate information. “
In his statement, Trump slammed the Department of Justice for filing the lawsuit and urged Peach State residents to sue their representatives.
“The Bidens Department of Justice has just announced that they are suing the Great State of Georgia because of the Election Integrity Act,” his statement began. “Honestly, it should be the other way around! The law in question, signed by Governor Brian Kemp in late March, overhauled election protocols in Peach State, placing new restrictions on voting by mail and increasing legislative control over the process. of voting.
It also allows the State Election Board to remove and replace election officials in the province, while restricting the power of the secretary of state as chief election official in Georgias.

The law does not change Election Day hours and extended early voting by adding a second mandatory Saturday.
It also confirms that counties have the option to open two Sundays and allow counties to extend early voting hours beyond normal business hours.
President Biden compared the voterintegrity law to “Jim Crow” in late March, which caused him to run fact-checkers for repeatedly misrepresenting the details of the law.

Within two days of a corporate and Democratic pressure campaign endorsed by the president, Major League Baseball said it was pulling the 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta to protest the law.
That move sparked backlash, as the league chose to move its game from a city with a large population of minorities that would benefit from business. It moved to Denver, which has a much lower minority population and still stricter voting laws than Georgias.

Many GOP lawmakers in Georgia and elsewhere have insisted changes are needed to restore voter confidence after the 2020 election.
