Launched by US Sen. Tim Scott launched his re-election campaign Monday, arguing in a series of stops across South Carolina that he and other Republicans represent progress and stability for voters in this deeply conservative state.

Scott, 55, said the 2022 run in the Senate will be his last. The only Black Republican chamber, he has become one of the GOP’s targets, specifically on issues of race and policing.

Scott also began to be mentioned as a potential 2024 GOP presidential candidate, with his name appearing in a straw poll conducted this year by the Conservative Political Action Conference. He also gave the parties ’response to President Joe Bidens’s first speech in Congress this year, who accused Democrats of dividing the country and suggested they were using race as a political weapon.

Scott also had an introductory speech during the 2020 Republican National Convention.

Scotts ’time in attention isn’t all that discriminating, however. This year, he led a two-sided effort on police reforms, which negotiators said last week they agreed on a key framework.

Scott previously served a term of the U.S. House and was only elected to his second when Gov. He was hired by Nikki Haley in late 2012 to succeed Jim DeMint.

Elected to a full Senate term in 2016, Scott already has the support of former President Donald Trump who gave him his full and total endorsement this year, in a statement released through his Save America PAC. In the Senate, he often aligned with Trump, voting for him nearly 91% of the time, according to FiveThirtyEight.

In a video launch released Monday, Scott described America as a country at a crossroads, possibly accompanied by uncertainty and disagreement with the Biden administration at the helm, as he and Republicans represent stability. .

The video features endorsements from a number of well-known Republicans, along with every GOP member of the South Carolina congressional delegation except U.S. Rep. Tom Rice. The 7th District congressman who faced a tight major battle of his own after voting to impeach Trump following the Jan. 6 uprising did not immediately return a message asking for comment on his absence.

It also includes scams from former Trump administration officials who could be part of a GOP presidency field with Scott, along with Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Drew McKissick, chairman of the Republican Party of South Carolina, said Scott remains popular in the state, which he represents well.

He focuses on our conservative values ​​and explains them in a genuine, personal way that few others do, McKissick said in a statement to The Associated Press. Luckily he is our junior senator and is expected to beat the Democrats in 2022.

Several Democrats have announced their bids to fight for the chance to challenge Scott, including Spartanburg County Democratic Party Chair Angela Geter and state Sen. Krystle Matthews. No Democrat has won an entire race in South Carolina since 2006.
