NEW YORK (AP) Lawyers for the Trump Organization met again Monday with prosecutors at the Manhattan District Attorneys Office in a final attempt to kill a potential lawsuit stemming from a long -running investigation into the former presidents company.
Trump Organization attorney Ron Fischetti told The Associated Press that the meeting came as a grand jury was about to vote on a lawsuit this week following a more than two -year investigation into Trump’s business activities.
He told her prosecutors told him that Trump himself would not be charged at this time even if not in what would fall this week but added that the investigation was ongoing.
No charges are dropping this week against the former president, Fischetti said in a phone interview Monday. I can’t say he’s out of the woods completely.
The Manhattan attorney’s office declined to comment.
However, the former Republican president issued a suggestive statement in which he mocked the office of District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. as rude, evil, and completely biased in the way it treats lawyers, representatives, and some of the good long -term employees and people within the Trump Organization.
After hundreds of subpoenas, more than 3 million pages of documents, 4 years of searching, dozens upon dozens of interviews, and millions of dollars of taxpayer funds were wasted, they continue looking for a crime, Trump said, calling the continuation a continuation. of the greatest Witch Hunt of all time.
In recent months, investigators in Vances ’office have focused on the fringe benefits the company provides to top executives, such as use of apartments, cars and school tuition.
Investigators investigated Trump’s tax records, subpoenaed documents and interviewed witnesses, including Trump insiders and company executives.
Another person familiar with the investigation confirmed there were communications between defense attorneys and prosecutors on Monday. The man declined to provide any details of the conversations.
Such a final exchange takes into account the formalities that rarely change the course of an investigation at a final stage, indicating that the grand jury will soon vote.
The man was not allowed to discuss the case and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Fischetti, who did not attend Monday’s meeting, said the gathering was arranged for the Trump Organization not Donald Trump himself.
Just waiting, Fischetti said, he hopes to find out this week if there will be charges.
Prospective charges this week, he said, are limited to a couple of Trump Org employees who did not declare tax on the benefits they received. The company itself could also charge, he added.
Lawyers representing Donald Trumps company also met roughly with prosecutors for more than 90 minutes on Thursday.
It is not illegal for a company to offer employees tutoring assistance, rent them cars or let them use company-owned apartments, but such arrangements may be subject to tax on we.
Fischetti called the possibility of the charges completely outrageous and politically motivated. He said it would be extremely unusual for prosecutors to seek criminal cases on unpaid tax on fringe benefits.
Some of the investigation focused on longtime Trump Organization finance chief Allen Weisselberg.
Vances ’investigation into Weisselberg, 73, stemmed in part from questions about his son’s use of a Trump apartment at little or no cost, cars being rented for the family and tuition fees that made in a school attended by the grandchildren of the Weisselbergs.
Weisselbergs’ attorney, Mary Mulligan, declined to comment.
In addition to side benefits, prosecutors looked at whether the Trump Organization lied about the value of real estate holdings to lower taxes or to obtain bank loans or insurance policies in favor of terms. They also looked at the role of companies in paying hush money to two women who said Trump was involved with them, allegations Trump denied.
