SANTA MONICA, Calif. Activision has announced that Call of Duty will allow players to seize twice this coming weekend, in honor of the passing of statesman Donald Rumsfeld.
Double XP is boring. Instead, we want to do something that really honors who Donald Rumsfeld is, as a man and a leader, said Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision. So, starting Friday night, Call of Duty players can celebrate this great year by stealing double the amount of money, weapons and resources from the corpses of people they killed overseas.
Kotick did not hesitate to heap praise on the politician, whose demise was announced today.
For the Call of Duty family, Rumsfeld isn’t just one person. He has been a big part of our success. The wars we all love? He helped them get started, sometimes completely from scratch, Kotick said. When players clean up civilians and strip clean the houses this weekend, I ask them to remember who made it possible.
While some observers found the gesture inappropriate, others argued that a video game promotion was the best recognition of Rumsfelds ’career.
When it comes to making war on entertainment, this man is a pioneer, there is no question, media analyst Amelie Nicholson said. Before we even had Call of Duty, Rumsfeld was already teaching Americans how to watch war on a TV screen, numb to the suffering imposed on their name in half the world. Rumsfeld walked over to run Warzone.
At the end of the press release, Activision is also teasing the setting for the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise.
Rumsfeld has always dreamed of invading Iraq again. Let’s just say we’ll make his dream come true, maybe by the very end of 2023ish. Stay tuned. “
