A recent “Saturday Report” broadcast on the conservative Newsmax network talked about infrastructure bipartisan efforts, critical military race theory, former President Donald Trumps campaign rally in Ohio , Vice President Kamala Harris visiting the US-Mexico border, gun control and vaccine passports.

But a Facebook post sharing a 30 -minute video attached to a headline was completely unrelated to any of those stories and could not be expressed on its face.

“Pelosi said Trump is the MOST PRESIDENT after Bidens bragged. He’s holding a new election for Trump,” the headline said.

The video contains no mention of House Speaker Nancy Pelosis’s opinion about Donald Trump, or a new election.

And Pelosi never said Trump was the best president. In fact, he has long been among his sharpest critics.

He led Trump’s House impeachment in 2019, and famously tore up a copy of the text of his State of the Union address, on camera, in February 2020, when he finished delivering it. After the Capitol was attacked by pro-Trump rioters in January 2021, he and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called on Vice President Mike Pence to impose the 25th Amendment to remove Trump as president , claiming his “dangerous and cynical actions necessitated his immediate removal from office.” When Pence refused, he pushed to re-impeach Trump on charges that he incited an uprising.

The Facebook post corresponds to a common pattern of misinformation shared on social media, which gets attention but false headlines or headlines are superimposed on unrelated videos.
