U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave a very hard public assessment of former President Donald Trump in an official statement following his expression of sympathy for the troublemakers at the Capitol.

In a statement released on the Democratic speakers website on Thursday, Ms. Pelosi punished Mr. Trump as a twice-impeachable Florida native who retired from his official capacity as speaker.

Twice-impeach Florida retiree and de-facto Republican Party leader Donald Trump joined House Republicans today in disrespect to Capitol Police and other law enforcement, he said in the statement.

Ms. Pelosi said such officials bravely defended the U.S. Capitol on January 6 and condemned Mr. Trump for appearing to defend suspected troublemakers now that they face legal consequences for their actions. .

Mr. Trump said Wednesday that he believes many of those facing charges for their alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 uprising were being treated incredibly unfairly.

When you look at the people in prison and nothing happened to Antifa and they burned the cities and killed the people, the former president said.

Mr. Trump became the first president to be impeachable twice during his time in office, with the second trial in which he urged his supporters to march on the U.S. Capitol on 6 January.

Since Mr. Trump left office he has mostly lived at his Mar-A-Lago club in Florida, with reports saying he and his wife have been running an old-fashioned club in recent months.

This week Mr. Trump once again sparked controversy on Capitol Hill after he announced he would be suing three of the largest tech companies in the country.

Former presidents scoffing against Facebook, Twitter and Googles YouTube came after they banned him for inciting violence following the riots. Mr. Trump remained banned from the platforms.

The former president also cited the shooting of rioter and U.S. Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt, whom some conservatives have painted as a patriotic martyr.

But the man who shot Ashli Babbitt, boom, up to the head, just exploded, there was no reason for that, Mr. Trump said.

He added: And why can’t that person be opened, and why isn’t it studied? They have already written it. They said the case was closed.

Former presidents referring to Ms Babbitt being shot to the head is inaccurate. The Department of Justice (DOJ) found that Babbitt was shot in the left shoulder.

Ms. Babbitt was part of a group of pro-Trump rioters who rushed to the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election result following the Save America rally organized by Mr. Trump.

The DOJ ruled that Ms. Babbitt entered the capitol with the rioters and was forced through the broken glass door near the Speaker’s Lobby, prompting an officer to remove a single round.

The U.S. Attorneys Office and DOJ closed an investigation into the matter in April, ruling they would not pursue criminal charges against the U.S. Capitol Police officer who shot him.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested 500 people in connection with the riots, including attendees charged with various counts including vandalism, obstruction of litigation and assault by police officers.

Footage released by the FBI showed the extent of violent attacks on officials by some Trump supporters. Five people died as a result of the violence at the Capitol, including a Capitol police officer and Ms. Babbitt.
