Little League International mourns the passing of Donald Berger, First Connecticut District 8 Administrator

Little League International is saddened by the passing of Donald Berger, former Connecticut District 8 Administrator. He is 93.

Mr. Berger, a native of Rockville, Connecticut., And longtime resident of Vernon, Connecticut, lived in South Windsor, Connecticut. at the time of death. A graduate of Rockville High School, he served in the United States Air Force from 1950-52. After his military service, he attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Marketing.

After years as an insurance agent, Mr. Berger returned to school and earned a teaching certificate from Eastern Connecticut State University. He was a teacher in the Manchester (Connecticut) School District from 1954-74. During this time, he held the roles of Vernon Park and Recreation Director, a position he held for 40 years.

He helped with the repairs and became the first President of the Rockville Little League (1950). He served Connecticut District 8 Administrator (North Central Connecticut) for 35 years and has been a member of numerous national committees. Among his many public appearances, he received the John Wentworth Good Sport “Golden Key Award” from the Connecticut Sports Writer’s Alliance for unselfish dedication to community sports.

Mr. Berger is survived by his daughters, Patricia, Beverly, Barbara, and Maureen; and sons, Gregory, Dohn, BJ, Timothy, and Robert. He has 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two great -grandchildren, along with many nephews. He was preceded by his parents, Frederick and Mary Berger; brother, Robert; sister, Marylin; and special friend Ruth Steppe.
