McCarthy makes his 5th pick in the GOP for the Jan. 6 elite committee

Other members include Rep. Rep. Rodney Davis, a moderate who serves as the leading Republican on the House Management Committee; Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, the leading Republican on the House Judiciary Committee; Rep. Kelly Armstrong (RN.D.), a lawyer by commodity who served on the House Judiciary Committee during Trump’s first impeachment; and freshman Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas), a former sheriff who supported Capitol Police in the return of rioters who attempted to explode on the floor of the House during the siege.

McCarthy said he wants to “make sure you get the best people on the committee, paying attention to Davis’ work on the administration panel and Nehls ’years in law enforcement.

McCarthys ’appointments came days before the select panel was scheduled to conduct the first hearing, featuring witnesses from the U.S. Capitol Police Department and Metropolitan Police Department. Among the committee members named Democrat was Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), A critic of McCarthy who was ousted from the House GOP leadership for her condemnation of Trump.

The investigation is expected to be highly controversial, as both parties fight to blame security failures on Jan. 6 that led to multiple law enforcement damages as Trump supporters scrambled to try to distract Congress from validating. of his loss to President Joe Biden. Three of McCarthy’s five expected choices for the Republican side of the selected panel voted in favor of challenges to certify Biden’s success.

Jordan declined on Monday to say whether McCarthy asked him to serve on the panel. When asked if he wanted to, the Ohio Republican said the decision was entirely up to Kevin but he would join the list if asked.
