Donald Trump Tried Many Parts Of Facebook Before Being Banned, Author of Claims

Former President Donald Trump may have locked horns on Facebook in recent times, but as a user of the social networking site he has tried many parts of it, author Cecilia Kang said.

Kang, co-author of the new book, An Ugly Truth: Inside Facebook’s Battle for Domination, “said the former President has tested Facebook’s business model and culture. According to him, it has given priority to engaging uses and growth to limit potentially dangerous speech

The author told Yahoo Finance that once Trump came along and controversies arose, and many problems and scandals arose, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg took greater control.

Facebook’s challenges go back to the presidential campaign in 2016 when Trump’s rabid rhetoric and election disruption in Russia dealt with the tech company in the consequences of content posted on the social networking site.

In 2018, it was revealed that data firm Cambridge Analytica collected data from Facebook users to gather voter profiles. That was one of the scandals. The list also includes a protest and ad boycott in June last year over Facebook’s decision to leave a Trump post after the assassination of George Floyd.

The Trump era has reportedly been a testing period affecting the relationship between Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Zuckerberg, Kang said.

Kang notices that Sandberg, who is the balance in some of Zuckerberg’s impulse and personality types, doesn’t back down once the CEO takes more control. The author says Zuckerberg has also lost some faith in him, and he’s furious that the company’s reputation has deteriorated during the Trump era.

Facebook’s relationship with Trump finally ended immediately after the Jan. 6 riot in the capitol as the platform chose to ban him.

Earlier this month, Trump announced he would take legal action against social media giants, including Facebook, Fox News reported.

Trump said there is no better evidence that big tech is out of control than the fact that they banned the sitting US president. He felt that if the tech job could treat him this way, it could do it to anyone.

He was banned from social media platforms because of his false claims that the presidential election was stolen. It is alleged that he contributed to the violence that took place at the Capitol this year.
