Finding Student-Centric Teaching Methods

In this article, I will discuss student-centered methods that promote active learning and student choice. But what are the best methods to use in your classroom? Let’s discuss each method in more detail. What makes them effective? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? What is important to know before you try them.

PERC model

The PERC model for the student-centered method of teaching focuses on developing teachers’ ability to use the latest research from an essay writing service in pedagogy. This model has three components:

  • Teacher Professional Development
  • Learner-Centered Practice
  • Implementation.

The professional development team, led by the director of teacher development, collected data from study participants and analyzed patterns. The team also coached some of the teachers. This contributed to the teachers’ greater understanding of what was going on.

The TAS in the PERC class were peer instructors who had taken the STEM course. They could pass a high-stakes test or qualify for a college-level program. They are selected by the teacher and must have strong peer relationships and academic engagement.

In addition to guiding their students’ work, TAS also serves as role models for academic engagement. In the PERC classroom, whole-class instruction is limited to about 20 percent of the time. The structure and responsibilities of TAS in the PERC classroom are quite different from the traditional STEM classroom.

Project-based learning

Initially, students are given tasks centered around a specific question. Unlike project-based learning, which focuses on the end product, problem-based learning involves the acquisition of new knowledge and the search for solutions. Typically, problem-based learning begins with an open-ended question and requires students to develop hypotheses and find additional data to answer the question. Students can then apply what they have learned to create solutions to real-world problems.

The main goal of project-based learning is to encourage students to apply what they have learned to real-world situations. Students are then evaluated on how well they have applied what they have learned.

A good project begins with a question and develops from that question. The result is a product that demonstrates students’ knowledge in action. During the project, they should share their findings with their classmates and present their solutions.

Inquiry-based learning

Inquiry-based learning is a learner-centered approach to education, and it can work with all types of learners. It requires students to engage in learning, use critical thinking, and make sense of the information gathered. It can also be effective for students with special needs. Teachers can use a variety of strategies to get the most out of this teaching method. However, teachers should keep the following factors in mind when using this method with students.

Inquiry-based learning can be accomplished in a variety of ways, but its essence lies in three basic steps: introducing a new topic, guiding students to explore it, and encouraging them to form hypotheses.

During this process, students develop questions, hypotheses, and conclusions about the topic being explored. They also collaborate and learn from each other in the process.

Montessori method

The Montessori education method promotes students’ independent, enthusiastic, and confident learning. Children are empowered to collaborate, think critically, and act boldly.

These are all necessary 21st-century skills. Finding student-centered teaching methods using the Montessori method can be challenging, but it is possible if the right principles are followed. Read on to learn more about these learning strategies. And, as a bonus, they can easily be implemented in your classroom.

The Montessori method uses certain learning materials that vary depending on the age of the student. Materials for the youngest students tend to focus on real-world skills.

They help develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. They also introduce children to the process of choosing and completing a task. They also learn how to work with different materials at the same time. During the three-hour work cycle, children work with materials individually, in pairs, or small groups. The teacher tells the children which activity to do, where to work, and with whom.

Flipped classroom model

The flipped classroom model can be a powerful tool for teachers seeking to make learning more engaging for their students. In addition to being flexible and engaging, the flipped classroom model makes the most efficient use of class time.

Students are able to watch videos and participate in discussions during class, avoiding the traditional instructor-centered lecture format that leads to a passive, unengaged audience.

The flipped classroom model allows for multiple solution strategies. Students can revisit the lesson to explore the topic and determine the most effective strategy. The flipped model allows students to work at their own pace and develop understanding of concepts and skills.

In addition, the flipped classroom model allows students to learn at their own pace. This  model is more effective in creating a collaborative atmosphere.
