Who would have thought that a piece of cloth tied around one’s chest could be the hottest top this summer? While it is not clear who wore the scarf first as a top, Queen Nefertiti of Egypt is said to be the first to wear a scarf. Worn under a sumptuous jeweled headpiece, Nefertiti created timeless trends. Fast forward to ancient Roman times, scarves were used as a “sweat cloth”, absorbing sweat while men were doing physical work. While the goal of wicking away sweat still remains in these hot Summer months, the scarf is once again changing the proposed use. Worn as a top, the opportunities for style are endless and depend on the wearer. It’s hard to imagine Summer 2021 without a scarf top; though, the creation of a scarf top must be born purely out of a creative “fault”.

Peek a boo. Oh, the love and hate relationship with the Y2K trend. Perhaps the most famous trend that was born out of the 2000s has to be the whale tail. Created when low-top jeans were the only option, the wearer had no other choice but to rock their revealing underwear. Respecting the cyclical nature of the Y2K trend, we’ve already glimpsed the whale tail trend making a comeback as low-rise jeans became increasingly popular, for hip comfort, once again.
