Darling State of Mind fashion boutique to open fourth Louisville store

LOUISVILLE, Ky. When Jen Neutz graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2013, she wasn’t sure what profession to pursue.

Neutz says he often mentions how he wants to start his own shop. But the Louisvillian native said he didn’t start taking steps to turn it into a reality until he received encouragement from a family member.

“Finally, one day, my mom was like, ‘Well, stop saying that, write a business plan and go for it,” Neutz told me.

He rises to the challenge: In April 2016, the then 23-year-old Neutz opened Dear State of Mind, a fashion and gift boutique, at 1321 Herr Lane #187 in the Westport Village shopping center.

Five years and two additional stores later (one store at 12951 Shelbyville Road#104 in Middletown, and another at 600 Shelbyville Road#143 at Shelbyville Road Plaza), Neutz is gearing up to open its fourth Darling State of Mind location at 601 S. Hurstbourne. parkway.

Neutz first came up with the idea for the new shop after his childhood friend’s family contacted him about an open space in South Hurstbourne. He said he plans to open the shop in mid-September and will hire additional employees. (Neutz notes she typically has about 20 seasonal employees for the company at any given time, mostly young women in college).

Darling State of Mind sells a wide variety of women’s clothing, from jeans to rompers, accessories and gifts, such as candles and books. Neutz told me that he and a colleague travel to the clothing and gift market four to five times a year to collect inventory.
