Bears Get Gold in Men’s Swimming, Silver in Women’s Swimming

TOKYO – California collected three medals on Saturday, increasing Cal’s medal tally to 12. The Golden Bear earned a duo medal with Ryan Murphy and Tom Shields won gold in the 4×100 meter medley relay.Weitzeil Monastery added to the count with a silver medal appearance in the women’s 400 meters medley relay, with 12 bears in total in competition on Saturday (Pacific Time) at the Tokyo Olympics.

With a total of 12 medals, the Bears have earned four gold, four silver and four bronze now mid-Olympic games.

Men’s Golf
Collin Morikawa(USA) entered the finals in T17 before jumping into the 7-way playoffs for bronze with 63(-78). In the bronze medal playoffs, he beat five others through three holes before dropping head-to-head with CT Pan in 4th. Morikawa finished in T4 place in the Men’s Golf individual final.

Princess Track and Field
Camryn Rogers (Canada) crossed the 72.5 meter women’s hammer throw with one throw in the women’s hammer throw qualifier. Rogers hit 73.97 million at his first and only attempt of the hammer qualifier and advanced to the Olympic final.

Men’s Swimming

Murphy and Shields took gold medals in the final swimming event of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as the United States won the men’s 4×100 meter medley relay in world record mode Saturday night (PT). Murphy, swimming backstroke, put the Americans in charge with a 52.31 split in the opening leg. The US erased the 12-year-old world record at the event (3:27.28) with a time of 3:26.78. Murphy joins Michael Andrew (breaststroke), Caeleb Dressel (butterfly) and Zach Apple (freestyle) in the world record-setting relay pool. Despite not competing in the relay final, Shields earned gold for the early qualifying American butterfly leg swim on Friday.

Women’s Swimming

Weitzeil closed out the swimming section of the Tokyo Olympics by leading the United States to a silver medal in the women’s 400m medley relay. Weitzeil had a narrow 0.25 advantage over Australia at the final anchor, and he took it blow after blow. the punch fight with Cate Campbell one lane ended. Although Weitzeil closed with a bold 52.49 split, the Aussies bit the Americans on the wall by 0.13 seconds, finishing the relay with a silver medal.

Women’s Water Polo

The Five Bears competed in the women’s water polo playoffs on Saturday. Emma Wright, Paul’s relatives, Kelly McKee (Canada) face to face with fellow BearsKitty Lynn Joustra(Netherlands) in Pool A clash. The Netherlands beat Canada 16-12 including a goal from Cal’s Joustrain in the fourth minute of the second quarter. Wright, Paul and McKee all recorded minutes for the Canadians, with McKee scoring from action shots in the second quarter.

Anna IIlles (Hungary) scored twice for Hungary in the defeat to China with 18 minutes overall.
