Just as millions wish to have Sabyasachi creations in one’s wardrobe, that wish will soon come true when the long-awaited Sabyasachi x H&M collaboration launches, presenting a ready-to-wear collection called Wanderlust from the iconic Indian brand. . The collaboration was originally set to launch in April 2020, but the pandemic has delayed it. Cut to 2021 and Sabyasachi’s gorgeous collection is finally ready to go live, presenting rich textiles in modern and classic Indian silhouettes that align with the mindset of the modern global nomad.
Continuing H&M’s collaborations with iconic brands around the world (Karl Lagerfeld, Comme des Garcons and Versace), this is the brand’s first with an Indian designer. “At a time like this, we believe people value the use of homemade crafts and textiles more than ever and that’s something that couldn’t be done better than Sabyasachi. We hope to bring this amazing collection to as many people as possible around the world, said Maria Gemzell, Head of New Development, H&M.
For designer Sabyasachi, this collaboration comes as a great opportunity to advance the Indian narrative and create affordable clothing to reach a larger audience.
Tell us about your collaboration with H&M. What made you do it?
Sabyasachi: “There’s a saying from Rumi that what you’re looking for is looking for you. I’ve wanted to work on a beautiful collection for a long time but never been able to do it before due to logistics and other factors. So when H&M reached out for this collaboration, I thought it was too good to be reality. It really came at the right time, just as the brand was finishing 20 years. It’s a great opportunity to reach a larger audience with affordable collections that are timeless, gender fluid and chic.

Tell us about Wanderlust and what can we expect from this ready-to-wear range?
Sabyasachi: “Today’s youth believe in traveling around the world and leading a good lifestyle. With that in mind, this collection is a resort that meets highway and travel chic. All items are hassle-free, easy and interchangeable. You can mix and match them and have fun using your own imagination.”
“You’ll see beautiful Sanganeri prints from Rajasthan as well as carefully crafted embroidery on rich Indian textiles. Our signature floral print is a must-have. This design has been hand painted and then digitally remade.”
The Sabyasachi x H&M collection will offer a complete fashion collection for women and men, including accessories such as jewelry, footwear, sunglasses, belts and bags at affordable prices. Some of the highlight pieces include flowing long dresses, tunics, blouses, breezy shirts, wide pants and more. It will also offer the first collaboration saree of its kind, specially designed for customers in India.

Let’s talk about gender fluidity in the Wanderlust collection
Sabyasachi: “My parents always taught me that men and women are the same. I remember during the beach holidays in the past, my mother and aunt would borrow their husbands pants and wear them with belts and other accessories. I think in this day and age this is the time It’s very important to spread the message of fluidity and gender sustainability in fashion. Wanderlust is a casual style that both men and women can easily choose from. I wanted men to wear women’s pajamas and women to wear men’s tunics. All these pieces are timeless yet affordable.”
After this collaboration, are you planning to introduce more beautiful collections?
Sabyasachi: “I have plans to make Sabyasachi accessories more accessible to customers, as well as our beauty line. However, our clothes will remain couture and exclusive. In the future, I can introduce home collections and maybe even dive into hospitality with Sabyasachi hotels. know? Just wait and see!”

What’s your favorite pick from the Wanderlust collection?
Sabyasachi: “This is a t-shirt with the Bengal tiger logo. The craze for logo clothes has always been huge and I hope with this, people start looking for logoed t-shirts from more Indian fashion brands.”
The Sabyasachi x H&M collection will go live on August 12 at select H&M stores in India and 17 other countries, including the US and UK. It will also e-tail on Myntra and 48 international markets on the brand’s online platform. The Wanderlust is priced between Rs 799 and 9,999.
